Fund reporting software: six platforms to compare
By Dan Keegan · Page updated
Fund reporting software helps prepare, review or distribute information about a fund, but a portal, an accounting engine and a portfolio-data platform perform different jobs.
The FCA’s AIFM reporting guidance illustrates a separate regulatory reporting channel; a polished LP dashboard is not evidence that every filing obligation has been met.
This comparison selects six products or product families with official private-capital reporting evidence; it does not establish a universal winner, UK hosting or regulatory suitability.
- Six sourced examples
- Alphabetical, unranked selection
- Practical evaluation checks

Six official sources
Which six reporting products have official private-capital evidence?
The selection covers different reporting layers intentionally: investor portals, broader alternative-fund reporting and portfolio monitoring.
The rows paraphrase the suppliers’ own published scope, without assuming all modules, integrations, templates or administration services are included in one licence.

These are published capabilities, not hands-on product tests, endorsements or independently verified service outcomes.

Which reporting problem does the platform need to solve?
Fund reporting software can distribute an approved PDF, generate an investor capital account or collect portfolio data; those are not interchangeable tests.
Juniper Square’s portal can operate separately from its other offerings, while iLEVEL’s fund-of-funds description emphasises monitoring and data standardisation.
- AccountingThe reconciled books and investor allocations.
- MonitoringPortfolio-company or underlying-fund data.
- ProductionDefinitions, calculations, review and report assembly.
- DeliveryAccess-controlled investor documents and data.
Compare the evidence
Which outputs should a fund reporting specification separate?
A shared label such as quarterly reporting is insufficient for a software demonstration.
ILPA’s Reporting Template standardises fee, expense and carried-interest disclosure; its suggested guidance describes a supplement to the GP’s quarterly reporting.
| Output | Evidence to request | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Investor capital statement | Opening balance, contributions, distributions, allocations and closing reconciliation. | Confirm vehicle, currency and investor-specific scope. |
| Portfolio report | Source dates, company metrics, valuation inputs and review history. | A monitoring dashboard is not the fund ledger. |
| ILPA-format schedule | An exported file with the exact version and mapped fee/expense/carry fields. | Template support is not automatic legal compliance. |
| Regulatory return | Field definitions, validations, approval and submission evidence. | An LP portal does not prove RegData filing functionality. |

How would a revised quarter-end valuation move through the system?
In a hypothetical fund, a valuation changes after a draft LP report is assembled.
Fund reporting software needs to expose the affected source data, recalculations, reviewer approval and replacement of the draft.
This is a proposed demonstration script, not a claim that every product performs each step.
- Source dateIdentify which approved valuation changed.
- RecalculationShow affected totals and investor allocations.
- ApprovalKeep reviewer decisions and previous versions.
- DeliveryPublish the authorised pack to the correct users.
Seven practical checks
Which seven tests belong in a reporting-software demo?
Ask fund reporting software vendors to use the same anonymised or synthetic sample and retain the results.
- 01
Define the audience
Separate GP finance, investor relations, LP users and regulatory reporting teams.
- 02
Trace the source
Follow one reported amount to its ledger or portfolio record and review date.
- 03
Reconcile a revision
Change an approved input and show versioning, checks and sign-off.
- 04
Test access boundaries
Demonstrate that one investor cannot view another investor’s documents or figures.
- 05
Export a real format
Check the required template version, currency, terminology and delivery file.
- 06
Price the actual scope
Record licensed modules, connectors, migration, support, administration and exit separately.
- 07
Keep an exit route
Test retrieval of historical reports, permissions, source records and data definitions.

What should a team verify before accepting an ILPA claim?
Fund reporting software should identify the supported output and version, not simply use an industry logo.
ILPA’s current page describes the updated template’s intended adoption population, including funds still investing in Q1 2026 and funds starting from 1 January 2026.
Applicability in the reporting relationship, contractual requirements and data reconciliation remain separate checks.
- VersionThe actual template and fields in use.
- PopulationWhich funds and reporting periods it is intended for.
- DefinitionsFees, expenses and carry mapped consistently.
- ReconciliationThe exported schedule agrees with approved records.
Use your own figures
How much preparation time is in the reporting workstream?
Count the number of report packs and your minutes of preparation per pack.
A fictional batch of 24 packs at 45 minutes each contains 18 preparation hours; no software saving or market benchmark is implied.
Your figures · arithmetic only
Planned preparation hours = report packs × preparation minutes per pack ÷ 60.
Exclude automated running time or include it consistently in your own baseline. This does not estimate elapsed time, review effort, implementation costs or achievable savings.

What makes a software shortlist defensible?
Fund reporting software belongs on a shortlist when the relevant output has been demonstrated with reconciled records and a defined operating owner.
For an outsourced operating service, use fund administration; for entity and capital-flow context, use fund structure.
- Scope demonstratedThe selected product produces the needed output.
- Figures reconciledDefinitions and source balances can be traced.
- Access checkedThe intended reader sees only authorised material.
- Ownership explicitPreparation, approval and support are assigned.
A report is only as reliable as its definitions and source trail.

Which questions remain?
No. A portal can deliver data or documents without being the accounting system that produces and reconciles them.
No. Confirm the exact template version and output in a demonstration; ILPA reporting is not a universal software certification.
Not necessarily.
Some suppliers offer both, but the licence, service engagement and responsibilities must be scoped separately.
