Placement agents for first-time private equity funds

A first-time fund may be led by experienced investors, but it has no prior fund of its own to show LPs.

The right agent can help present the team’s attributable record and reach investors aligned with a new platform.

Some entries below have a documented inaugural fund example.

Others state an emerging-manager or first-time service; those distinctions are explicit in each entry.

Fund I and emerging-manager options

Entries are alphabetical.

A past Fund I mandate or a stated service is evidence of experience or positioning, not an assurance that the firm will accept a new mandate.

A Fund I raise needs four things

These are useful questions to settle before asking any placement agent for a proposal.

ATTRIBUTION

A defensible deal record

Show which investments the proposed team sourced, led and realised, and be precise about what belongs to a previous platform.

03/ terms

First-time, spin-out and emerging

“First-time” describes the fund vehicle.

A spin-out may have an attributable investment record from an established firm, while an emerging manager can already have several funds.

A firm’s emerging-manager page therefore does not prove it has placed a private equity Fund I.

Ask each agent to show comparable debut mandates, how it presents attributed track records, which LPs consider first-time funds, and whether it takes a full placement mandate or a narrower advisory role.

Ask directly about current appetite for your strategy and fund size.

No. A first-time fund can be raised by a spin-out team with prior deal experience.

Investors will want clear attribution to that earlier work.

No. Firms are alphabetical.
