MCWIN Acquires Majority Stake in Big Mamma Group

Private equity firm McWin has acquired a majority stake in Big Mamma Group, an Italian restaurant group valued at €270m.

The deal will enable the group to expand into the Middle East and the US. Big Mamma Group operates 23 restaurants across five countries, including five London sites.

The co-founders of Big Mamma Group, Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux, will continue to run the company as co-CEOs and remain shareholders. The investment from McWin will help to drive the expansion of the group into new markets and will provide the company with unlimited access to McWin’s portfolio of companies.

Henry McGovern, co-founding partner at McWin, praised the vision of Lugger and Seydoux, stating that they have pioneered a new type of restaurant experience, providing customers with a truly unique and memorable visit at every site. The investment from McWin will help to support the next stage of growth for Big Mamma Group.

Big Mamma Group was founded in Paris by Lugger and Seydoux, with the aim of serving good food and a great atmosphere at affordable prices. It has strong sustainability credentials and has achieved B-Corp status as well as using 100% renewable energy across its sites.

The restaurant group has replicated the success of its first UK location, Gloria in Shoreditch, across four more London locations, each with its own distinct identity.

The group has been awarded Restauranteur of the Year – Group Catey, with judges praising the Big Mamma boys for bringing fun and extravagance to the London restaurant world.

The investment from McWin will enable Big Mamma Group to expand into new markets, including the Middle East and the US.

Seydoux and Lugger have expressed their excitement at joining forces with McWin and have stated that they are delighted to have a partner who shares their vision of running a responsible hospitality adventure with a collective approach, uncompromising quality, and a strong passion for respecting culture, products, and Italy.
