Renatus’s Boojum Restaurants Acquired by UK Owner of Zizzi Chain

Boojum, a Belfast-based restaurant chain, has been acquired by the Azzurri Group, which owns the Zizzi and Ask Italian chains.

Boojum was founded in 2007 with its first store in Botanic Avenue, Belfast, and was bought by David and Andrew Maxwell in 2015, with backing from Dublin-based investment firm Renatus.

The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The acquisition of Boojum by the Azzurri Group, which has around 200 outlets across the UK, marks a new dimension to their portfolio, serving a younger demographic and offering a different cuisine.

Steve Holmes, CEO of the Azzurri Group, said Boojum was “a really good fit” and that they looked forward to working with David and the team to seize the massive opportunity in the Mexican fast casual segment.
