Wollemi Capital was founded by Tim Bishop, the former global head of Macquarie Capital’s infrastructure business, and Paul Hunyor, the former head of Asia at Boston Consulting Group’s corporate venturing unit.

The firm is headquartered in Sydney and has offices in New York, Seattle, and San Francisco.

The fund’s investors include the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Trawalla Capital, and Alan Schwartz, the former CEO of Bear Stearns.

“We are excited to launch Wollemi Capital and to partner with some of the world’s leading investors to address the climate crisis,” said Bishop. “We believe that early-stage companies are best placed to develop the innovative solutions that are needed to decarbonize the economy.”

Wollemi Capital’s investment focus is on businesses that are developing solutions in the following areas:

  • Energy transition: This includes companies that are developing new technologies to generate and distribute clean energy, as well as companies that are helping to improve energy efficiency.
  • Natural climate solutions: This includes companies that are working to restore and protect forests, wetlands, and other natural ecosystems that absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
  • Climate-resilient infrastructure: This includes companies that are developing new infrastructure that is designed to withstand the impacts of climate change, such as sea level rise and extreme weather events.

Wollemi Capital is targeting a return of 20% to 25% for its investors. The firm expects to invest in 15 to 20 companies over the next three to five years.

“We believe that there is a significant opportunity to generate attractive returns from investing in climate solutions,” said Hunyor. “We are confident that we have the team and the track record to identify and invest in the best companies in this space.”

The launch of Wollemi Capital is a sign of the growing interest in climate investing. In recent years, there has been a surge of investment in companies that are developing solutions to climate change. This trend is expected to continue in the years to come, as the world grapples with the challenges of climate change.
