Notice letter – How to write a resignation letter UK template examples
Following on from our last post with high profile US examples we now look at the best I’m off examples that have been made public in the United Kingdom.
`Now this usually means politics so we want to hear from you which is the best….write your comment below.
The open letter to Gordon Brown (ex UK Prime Minister)
I owe it to our Party to say what I believe no matter how hard that may be. I now believe your continued leadership makes a Conservative victory more, not less likely….
Former Europe Minister Caroline Flint resigned from the UK Government and her cushy role as Europe Minister in a powerful letter to Gordon Brown (then UK Prime Minister).
“I believe the achievements of the Labour Government to date have been monumental and you have played an immense part in the creation of those achievements.”
Wait for it….
“However, I am extremely disappointed at your failure to have an inclusive Government. You have a two tier Government. Your inner circle and then the remainder of Cabinet.“
Andew Mason – Groupon
“After four and a half intense and wonderful years as CEO of Groupon, I’ve decided that I’d like to spend more time with my family. Just kidding – I was fired today. If you’re wondering why… you haven’t been paying attention“
Groupon – (ex) chief executive Andrew Mason
Carol Bartz – Yahoo
“I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward.“

Greg Smith – Goldman Sachs
Greg Smith famously announced his intentions to depart from Goldman Sachs by way of New York Times article. That must take balls…and connections…and a little bit of crazy…
Including gloves off references to “muppets”, “axes” and “hunting elephants” the headline in the New York Times was clearly titled: Why I Am Leaving Goldman Sachs.
“After almost 12 years at the firm — first as a summer intern while at Stanford, then in New York for 10 years, and now in London — I believe I have worked here long enough to understand the trajectory of its culture, its people and its identity. And I can honestly say that the environment now is as toxic and destructive as I have ever seen it….

Andrew Lahde – Wealth Fund
Maybe the best is the one with the least to lose. Someone who’s made their money and doesn’t even have a media profile type job
“Goodbye and F**k You” – Open Letter
“What I have learned about the hedge fund business is that I hate it.” I could not agree more with that statement. I was in this game for the money….The low hanging fruit, i.e. idiots whose parents paid for prep school, Yale, and then the Harvard MBA, was there for the taking. These people who were (often) truly not worthy of the education they received (or supposedly received) rose to the top of companies such as AIG, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers and all levels of our government. All of this behavior supporting the Aristocracy, only ended up making it easier for me to find people stupid enough to take the other side of my trades.“
God bless America.
Wealthy fund manager Andrew Lahde

It is a common belief that as an employee you need to formally resign from a job by writing a formal notification to your current employer. However, at most companies, there’s no formal requirement that you do so. That being said, it is a good thing to do and also provides a clear time line of when you ended your employment.

Handover responsibilities: A summary of what will be done during the transition period

This Is Very Much Not An Error…
When some employees are on their way out, they might want to do something to prove that they still deserve to keep their employment and this is exactly what happened when one designer created a great example of how to write a letter of resignation letter masked as an error message.
While this is probably the only example on this list that isn’t a letter of resignation as such, it’s very clearly a statement of intent that the employee wishes to end their tenure and doesn’t give the proverbial flying… that they wish their career in retail to continue with this employee
